Day 19 Tucumcari, NM to Santa Rosa, NM 60.3 miles

Stayed in a fantastic old Motel in Tucumcari last night. It was a total period piece with all the original 1960's fixtures and fittings. I love these old motels, I wish more of them had Wi-Fi.

Short ride today to Santa Rosa in the New Mexico Desert. Rode a really nice uninterrupted section of 66 for 40 miles, this was my first proper day in New Mexico. It feels a lot more remote than the other states I've been through.

Route 66 went through very narrow and dark tunnel under the Interstate. These weird pods hung from the ceiling. I don't know what lives in them. Nasty insects probably.

Route 66 is lined with derelict gas stations, motels and cafes.

Santa Rosa was a little oasis in the desert. I stopped here to break the 175 mile ride to Albuquerque into two parts. It's a pretty soulless place had has mostly chain motels & restaurants, but sometimes that's quite comforting when your in areas as remote as this.
